Synopsis. Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake is a spin-off of Adventure Time, the latter of which follows the adventures of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog. This series follows Finn and Jake's gender-swapped counterpart, Fionna the Human and Cake the Cat.

This is the first installment of the franchise to be targeted towards a mature audience, with a TV-14 rating. Advertisem*nt: In an alternate universe, Fionna is a 29-year-old woman living alone in an apartment with her cat Cake. After being fired from countless jobs, she wishes for a more fulfilling life.

Character development and humor are great and its got some darkness to it that the new TV-14 rating allows more, and they didn't overdo the more adult content in a way that would make it corny as some shows have done.

Steve, who the family regularly calls Jimmy now, is back together with Fiona. In the season's final scenes, the family gets rid of an unconscious Frank, removing him from their home and good graces.

The new spinoff, rated TV-14, caters to a more mature audience with inappropriate language and references to relationships. The creators targeted an older audience for Fionna and Cake because many Adventure Time viewers had grown up with the series and the streaming platform HBO Max allowed for a more mature rating.

Fionna Campbell, also called Fionna the Human, is a fictional character from the Adventure Time franchise. She was first introduced in the Adventure Time episode "Fionna and Cake" as a genderbent version of the show's lead character Finn the Human.

He is 12 years old at the beginning of the series but ages throughout the show and is 17 by the series finale.

Fionna and Marshall are also portrayed as friends in Fionna-world. They hang out regularly at the park and at her apartment, where Marshall occasionally stays (presumably because he is homeless.) Overall, the TV-14 rating for this show feels undeserved and a marketing move, as the only difference in content compared to the original PG-rated show is more frequent blood, alcohol use and mild swears ("ass" and "goddamn" are the strongest ones), which are allowed in TV-PG programming (the exception may be ep 2 ...

"Crap" and "ass" may be the strongest terms used in the entire series. The middle finger is briefly shown sometimes. "God/Goddamn" and "Jesus" are used.

In the end, they both get what they want; Cake can live as herself, and Fionna gets her world back — the two learned to fully trust in one another and in the future.
